Day 2 of couch to 5k!!!!
Feeling very proud of myself today! I was pretty sore from Tuesday's run so when I got home from work I told Taylor I did not want to go running. He went to work and I was doing homework feeling a little down on myself for not following through even 2 days of my program. Lacey starting whining and being crazy so I knew I needed to take her on a walk and I figured I might as well just do it! I put on my running shoes and stretched out and did 27 min! I stuck pretty close to the walk/pattern this time! I am proud of myself! Still slight pain in my shins I'll put some ice on them tonight! I am down 1lb for the week so far! Taylor Joined weight watchers which is awesome! He is the Weight-watcher notzie though! (I need him!) I keep meaning to get a before picture up! Thanks for reading this... if you are!

Day 1
Alright so day 1 of running was a bit of a challenge. My shins felt a little better today then they have in the past but still some pain. I did 33 min of walking/jogging although not exactal per the program. I am going to get to the point where I can at least do the 60/90 for 20 min 3 times in a row (resting 1 day in between) then I will jump into the program! It felt good to try though! I will get this!!! 2011 BABY!

So, I have been wanting to start this program for a while but now I am finally doing it!

I have had some shin issues so I am a little nervous but I have new running shoes and I plan to stretch really well. I think that by blogging about it I will stay motivated. (At least, I hope)
I have lost 4 lbs since starting Weight Watchers on the 1st so this will just keep me going! My end goal is 70lbs which will put me at 140lbs!
In November I did a 5K in 53min so in 9 weeks when this program is done I plan to beat Taylor's time (32 min)!!!
Today Taylor has the day off so when I get off of work at 2:30 we are going to go running. The plan for the 1st week is A brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. 3 times this week. Em's graduation!
On May 8, 2010, EMILY GRADUATED from NAU!
She got her BS in Parks and Recreation Management. She is still working on her internship but will be completely done and ready for the real world by the end of summer! We got to go to Flagstaf for the weekend (Taylor had to stay home and work... yuck!) It was a nice graduation ceremony then we went to Outback Steakhouse then back to our hotel, The Little America. It was nice to be able to spend the weekend with the family! We are so proud of Emster!
On Sunday we went to a formal brunch at the hotel for Mother's day!
The Survival trip!
vhe last weekend of April Taylor and Patricia went on a 3 day 2 night survival trip! We were each allowed 1 sleeping bag, a poncho, 2 water bottles, a knife, and a tin cup. We made our own shelter and started our own fire and ate off the land. It was a grueling 6 hour hike in and miserable 4 hour hike out. It pushed us to the end of rope and then pushed a little more! The second night we were solo, so we had to make our own fire, set up our own shelter. I am not sure what was worse, the cold, the fact we were with 10 strangers trying to pull together as a team, the rugged terrain, the lack of food, the lack of sleep, or just being pushed so far out of your comfort zone! But we made it and we are stronger because of it! The good news is that neither of us fought with each other the whole time! It was cool to see how we really came together as a couple and helped each other. Especially Taylor, he was so survival trip. o protective! As hard as it was I definitely recommend it for all people, especially newlyweds!
Taylor realized AFTER he had built his shelter that there 2 ant hills on either side of him. So he made a deal with the ants that of they ate him he would eat every last one of them! (Yes he really would have... he was snacking on a different colony earlier that day)! Luckily no ants were harmed as a result of revenge The last weekend of April Taylor and Patricia went on a survival trip.

Greenwood Wedding!
On April 24th, Erin got married to Willie Greenwood! They had a beautiful wedding in Las Vegas! We got there Saturday morning due to Taylor's work schedule so we missed all the fun with the bachelor/bachelorette parties. But we got
to ride in stretch hummer to the chapel from Willie's sister's house. The minister was a perfect Vegas minister with his deep southern draw. But he had some very nice things to say and Erin and Willie wear beaming with happiness! It was a beautiful ceremony!
It was fun to be able to spend a few night in Vegas! We gambled alot but luckily did not loose a lot! Patricia even won $50 at BINGO!

UPDATE
Life is expensive!
Due to a credit we thought we could get but found out we could not, on our tax return, I am sad to announce that Disney World has been postponed! We were going to still try to scrape our pennies and make it happen, however Patricia's older sister announced her long awaited wedding date! April 24th she will be married to Willie Greenwood in Las Vegas! So we are doing a little wedding with just the family! We are sad to not be going to Disney but so excited to be able to see them get married! Willie is a great guy and we couldn't be happier for them! Erin got accepted to Ross vet school in the Virgin Islands! THey will be moving down there in September!
We spent a weekend in Eagar with Erin & Willie and had a blast! Lacey loved playing with her big doggie cousins, Brutis (a great dane) and Mae Mae (a mastiff/boxer/American bulldog mix). We even got snow! It was fun to be there with the Sherman's! Taylor, Patricia's Dad, and Willie went fishing on Saturday and Taylor caught his first fish! It was a 17.5 inches rainbow trout!! He leaned how to clean it and we had it for dinner and it was DELICIOUS!
We had a great Easter with Taylor's side of the family and loved General Conference! Saturday we got to have an Easter celebration with Scott and Christine and the little ones! We dyed eggs and had a great time!
We have had a little bit of conflict regarding the terms of my Community Assistant job but with a little compromise we were able to work it out. ASU stimpulates that a Community Assistant only has 20 hours of outside employment. Since Patricia works 40 hours a week at college safety this was an issue. However, no mention of it was made until after she was hired. She went and met with the supervisor and was informed that either she goes down to part time or she cannot be a CA. This was a little irratating as she was upfront about her employment situation from the begining and was still offered the job. The supervisor was appologetic for not making the stipulation known before hand. So Patricia had the option of either going down to part time or giving up the CA job. After crunching some numbers and praying about it, we have decided that it will be best for her to go down to partime starting in August. She is excited for the simi break from work and we will still be able to save a considerable ammount each month! *DISNEY HERE WE COME*=)

This week was spring break and we spent it moving!!!! We are now living in Norht Desert Village which is nice because it is about 5 minute walk to Patricia's work. We were greatful to have Patricia's dad come and help us on Thursday. Lacey was a bit stressed out with all the moving but she is adjusting. Our new house is bigger and the bedrooms/bathrooms are on opposite sides so Emily can have some more privacy! On Saturday Taylor helped some people from our ward move out (Taylor just got a second calling as Ward Moving Coordinator), and was able to get a white picket fence for us! Our new house a little partion in the back but it is not fully enclosed so now we can work on getting it closed off so Lacey will have a little yard. We also had a communty yard sale on Saturday and were able to raise $60 for our Disney trip! Speaking of our Disney trip... our tax refund was about $1,000 less then what we thought it would be so are not sure we will be able to go the Disney World in July. So if anyone has any offers... so far Taylor has resorted to selling his own plasma and swimming in a freezing cold pool. Yep, he'd do ALMOST anything!

Adventures await us!
Well... we have some exciting news.... no we are not pregnant- it's better... We are going to Disney World! We got a good tax refund and Taylor's friend is getting married in Florida so we figured since we are going down there we might as well go all out! This will be Taylor's 19th time and Patricia's 1st! We can't wait! Our little Lacey will be spending the week with Grandma and Grandpa Sherman! They are excited to have their grandpuppy come visit!
Patricia got accepted to be a Community Assistant for North Desert Village starting in August. There are many benefits that will come from this job the best being free rent for a year! We are moving over spring break week into a 2 bedroom house in North Desert then when Patricia starts her CA job in August we will move into a 3 bedroom house! We are excited to have sort of a yard for Lacey.
Taylor completed his application for Nursing School and will find out at the end of April where he is on the waiting list. Then there is a minimum wait of 3 semesters before he can begin the program! We are excited it is getting closer!
Emily is still living with us and we love having her around! Tuesdays and most Fridays and "Tricia & Em night" which is a blast! (Taylor joins us when he can but is usually at work)
So we just are continuing to love life and enjoy all of our blessings. We are very fortunate and grateful for all we have been given. We hope you all are doing well also!

Ok, since 1 of the 3 people who actually do read my blog is getting on me... I will blog!
Our lives are still going great! Patricia is back on 7am-3pm shifts and Taylor still works most nights. Although he is off a bit more now with school. So we get to spend more time together. We just celebrated our first Valentine's Day together which was wonderful! It is so great to know you have a forever Valentine! Taylor teaches Gospel Principles every week and Patricia teaches Relief Society once a month. It is challenging but fun! We are enjoying having class together although the teachers are a bit frustrating. We love our survival class though and can not wait to go on our 3 day survival trip! Lacey is doing well, still as hyper as ever but for the most part she is a good pup!
We went on a backpacking trip a few weeks ago and each carried a 45 plus pound pack for a one night trip! We are excited to learn the survival skills so we will not have to carry so much next time! We didn't even take a tent! We just slept under the stars in the beautiful Superstitions! It was wonderful!
Patricia's grandmother passed away at the age of 94 after a painful battle with cancer. We will miss her very much but are grateful to have known her!
We celebrated our 6 month anniversary on Feb 8th by going to Red Lobster which was a fantastic treat and surprise from Taylor!
Patricia's sister Emily got an internship in Gilbert and will be moving into our spare room on Feb 22nd! We are excited to have her around!
That's about it... nothing to exciting! I will have to try to be better at thinking of funny stories that happen throughout the week to blog about.

Overdue update!
OH MY GOODNESS! I seriously have not written since October? Goodness I am such a slacker! Alright, well since I know you are all dying to know what been going on with the Nelsons... pull up a chair, warm up some hot cocoa and get comfy cause 3 months is a long time in the life of newly weds!
First, an overall update... we are FANTASTIC! Patricia moved to nights for winter break so we get most days off together at least until 3. It makes it a bit harder to keep up with the house work since I am not stuck at home all night now. Our puppy is still doing great! She is finally healthy and so full of energy. We take her to the dog park to let her run and play. As long as there are no "moving chew toys" (AKA small dogs) she loves it! We love her! We got a second car thanks to Taylor's sweet sister, Ashley. It will be nice to not have to work out who will take the truck!
Now on to our adventures... in October we went to the state fair for the day. We had a blast playing the games and even got to go to a free Lady Antebellum concert. I am slowly turning Taylor into a country music fan. It is a tough job but one step at a time! We also tried out some "fried foods" like a fried twinkie, fried snickers, and of course, a fried scorpion! The entire day we had our eyes set on these 4 foot Scooby Doo Dolls that were a prize for the ring toss game. You know, that impossible-to-win-game with the coke bottles and itty bitty rings. Well we played about 4 times and with our last 2 tickets of the night we gave it one more go. Patricia was ready to go home so she was just half heartedly tossing them when to the surprise of everyone, mostly the guy that worked there... SHE HOOKED IT! Scooby now sits in the corner of our living room baracaded by the couch so Lacey won't find him! GO PATRICIA!!! We think the fair will have to be an annual tradition.
Thanksgiving was fun. We started the morning off doing the Turkey Trott (marathon not the dance). Taylor's parents and brother & sister-in-law and us did the 1 mile fun run! Taylor & his mom ran the whole way and finished in about 9 minutes. Then we went down to Patricia's parents where we had a delicious feast!
Patricia was able to talk Taylor into joining the madness of Black Friday by telling him that Sports Authority was giving a gift card between $10 and $500 to the first 80 customers. So at 3 am we joined the crowd and sat out in front of the store... we got $10 each! Then we went to the Disney store anf bought some cute Mickey & Minne Stockings, then Home Depot and purchased our first Christmas tree together (also Taylor's first real Christmas tree)! We were done with our Black Friday adventures by 7:30am!
Our first Christmas together was spent with Taylor's family. We spent Christmas Eve at his parents and had tamlaes and chili then opened our PJ presents! Christmas morning we were woken up by Santa at 6:30 am! Santa was very good to us and we got new internal frame backpacking backpacks! After our celebration at home we went to Taylor's brother & sister-in-law's, Scott & Christine's in Sun City. Then we headed over to some good friends of the Nelson's, the Jackson's for a wonderful dinner! We celebrated with the Sherman's on Jan 3rd so we got spoiled twice! The Sherman Santa gave us many great things including a popcorn maker! We are so thankful for all that our familes do for us!
New Year's Eve was spent just the two of us watching movies. It was pretty uneventful, we looked at each other half way through a movie and said "Happy New Year!" We are, nevertheless, excited for 2010 and all the fun we will have!
This semester Taylor and Patricia are finising up thier Associate's Degrees. Luckily we needed the same classes so we are taking 2 classes togehter which ensures us 3 nights a week together. We are also going to go to institute once a week and we are taking an Outdoor Survival Class together! We are super excited! Taylor is applying to the nursing program at Mesa Community College. After he applies we will have a 3 semester wait (a year and a half)!
So life is good! We are loving being married and being with each other! We hope you are all also doing well! We'd love to hear from you some time!

Lacey
After 5 weeks of marriage Taylor & Patricia decided to adopt! On September 12, 2009 we welcomed the first addition to the Nelson family.... Lacey! Due to both of our love for canine companions we adjusted the budget and went to Maricopa County Animal Shelter where our precious Lacey, a 3 month old Australian Shepherd Mix, was waiting to be rescued. Although we did not know just how much rescuing she needed at the time, we are so glad to have her in our home.
Taylor was told that Lacey had a upper respiratory infection or "just a common cold" and that we could get some pills from the vet and she'd be fine. So we took her to the vet the following Monday. She had been lethargic and had a runny nose and raspy breathing. We also found several ticks on her and so we decided to run a blood test for tick fever. The vet took her temp and it was 105 (normal for dogs is 102). So she said we would treat her for Kennel Cough but she was worried it was distemper. Distemper has a 95% mortality rate in dogs. So prayed and hoped for the best. A few days later we got the result of another test we did on her back and found out she had Giardia and Roundworm. So we put on on yet more medicine! So 3 weeks and 3 diseases later... we have a healthy, happy puppy! Lacey is learning how to play fetch and loves chewing and romping! She is a very smart dog and was potty trained with in a week. We are excited for her to make a complete recovery so we can teach her all sorts of fun tricks and take her hiking with us! We are so glad to have Lacey in our home and hate to think of what would have happened if she stayed in the pound!
So our advice for the week is... adopt a pet from the shelter!!!!!
Everything else is going well for the Nelsons! We absolutely love married life! We try to sneak a few hours of together time in here and there between Taylor's school and our opposite work schedules. We are making it work with just one vehicle. It is nice that Patricia works on campus and can walk or get a ride to and from the office. There is also a bus that runs from campus to Taylor's work which is helpful! Taylor is getting through his rough anatomy class and learning how to play the guitar! We are excited for the cooler weather so we can begin our goal of getting to the summit of every mountain range in Arizona (194) !

We are making it work with just one vehicle. It is nice that Patricia works on campus and can walk or get a ride to and from the office. There is also a bus that runs from campus to Taylor's work which is helpful! Taylor is getting through his rough anatomy class and learning how to play the guitar! We are excited for the cooler weather so we can begin our goal of getting to the summit of every mountain range in Arizona (194) !

THE TEMPLE
So I just went back and read my post about the wedding and decided that I did not talk nearly enough about the temple. We tried really hard to make sure that we kept our wedding day focused on the temple. We planned a simple reception and incorporated the temple by having pictures of it for the centerpiece. We know that temple cermony was by far the most important part of the day. We got to the temple at 11:00am. The temple workers were so helpful and sweet. Jenny Black (Patricia's long time family friend) helpped her to get ready. It was so nice to have her there through all the comotion. Even with all the chaos of having so many people in the temple and people telling you which way to go and what to do next there is a sweet feeling of peace and order in the temple. It is just a "busy type of order"! After Patricia was dressed she was led to a hallway with several love seats and there was Taylor waiting for her. It was so nice to be able to sit in the coriordors of the temple and talk about the sweet ceremony that was about to take place. After a while the man who was to conduct our ceremony (the sealer), came out and explained to us what was going to take place in the ceremony. We could feel of his sweet spirit while he was talking to us and we knew that he was in fact called and oradained by God to preform this sacred ordinance. We were then led to the sealing room where most of our family and friends were seated waiting for us. We were filled with an overwhelming feeling of love and support as we walked in and saw everyone there. The sealing ceremony took all of maybe 15 minutes but it was full of beautiful promises for our future together. Then we were greeted by each one of the guests individually. We went our seperate ways to change then met each other in the lobby so we could walk out together. We walked out and were greeted by all of our friends and family! We spent the next half hour in the hot sun doing photos! It was good although I am sure we are all making funny faces from the bright sun in most of the pictures!! We are so happy to have had the privilige to be sealed to one another for time and for all of eternity! What a special blessing we have! More pictures are on the way....

The Nelson's Honeymoon (Part Two)
Wednesday we came home and opened all our gifts! We got a bar b que grill, a George Foreman grill, cute picture frames, pots, pans, kitchen stuff, bedding, towels, dishes, bowls, a toaster, a blender, a crock pot, a microwave, cooking pans, area rugs, $400 in Target gift cards, money, all sorts of great gifts! Then we took our gift cards and went and bought all of the other things we needed/wanted! It was so great! Taylor, because he is so so smart and always thinking ahead, only brought half of the gift cards with us so that we would be able to go back the next day and do even more shopping! Unfortunately, he forgot to tell Patricia that he only had half of them until we were standing in the check out line. So it ended up costing us a little more then we expected to have to spend but we had another fun day of gift card shopping on Friday! We also got to go on a little shopping spree at Bed, Bath & Beyond and at Walmart and we had a free dinner at TGI Fridays and Jack in the Box! YAY for gift cards!
On Thursday we decided it would be fun to drive the Apache Trail. We stopped at Superstition Mountain Historical Society Museum, Tortilla Flats, and the Roosevelt Lake Dam Visitor center. At the visitor center we saw a tarantula on the side of the building. While we were looking at it the ranger came out and said we could pick it up if we wanted to. Taylor wanted to see it move but neither of us were too excited about touching it. When the ranger encouraged us to poke it with a stick Taylor said he did not want to because he was afraid that it would shoot it's hairs into his skin! Patricia has a lot to teach that boy!!! :-) It was a long (6 hours) but fun drive!
After driving the trail we decided to head over to Taylor's parents'. Patricia was tired of driving by this point and she and Taylor were having a conversation when she looked in her mirror and saw a motorcycle cop with his lights on. After saying a few swear words and telling Taylor that she was in deep trouble... she pulled over to the side of the road. The officer was very upset with her and sternly asked "What are you doing going 70 in a 45?" Patricia mumbled some excuse and appology and said she simply wasn't paying attention. Then he noticed the dark long necked bottle on the seat next Patricia and demanded, "Have you been drinking that? Are you Drunk?" Patricia's heart sank as she looked over and saw an empty bottle laying on the seat next to her. Then she grabbed the bottle and showed it to the officer saying "no, it is root beer"! He said, " oh, alright, well just make sure you watch your speed" and left! Didn't ask for her license or anything! (Thank-you to who ever wrote "JUST MARRIED" on the back of our truck!)
Friday evening we went over to Taylor's parents to do some laundry. We only had 2 laudry baskets and they did not fit in our truck tool box. So Taylor, being the genius that he is, decided to use some of the saran wrap that was left over from our truck decorators to secure the clothes. We wrapped each basket 4 or 5 times in plastic wrap... we didn't loose any clothes! Saturday we continued to unpack and bought a few more things at Bed Bath and Beyond, like a new cabinaate for the living room, and lots of fun things at Walmart.
We got a phone call on Saturday from Patricia's mom saying that her 12 year old dog was not able to walk. He has had bad hips for a while and is pretty old. So we are affraid his days are numbered. We headed down to Patricia's parents for dinner and for Patricia to say her goodbyes to her beloved canine companion. He has an appointment at the vet on Monday morning. Fourtunatly we were able to have a fun evening with the Sherman's playing Balderdash!
Sunday was back to work for Patricia and Monday is back to work for Taylor... but it will be nice to still be able to see each other every night! We look forward to our life together and the fun adventures we will share... stay tuned.....
The Nelson's Honeymoon (Part One)
We headed out to Pointe Hilton Taptio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix. While Patricia was waiting for Taylor to check in some random guy came and knocked on her window and said "congratulations on the marriage" then asked her to get out and show them her dress.YAY for random people!:-)
The first morning we were woken up by a knock on the door. Before we could even realize what was going on... in comes the housekeeping lady! I am not sure who was more startled... the poor lady who didn't speak English or the half asleep newly weds.
Part of our deal was a $50 credit to the resort and 4 "buy one get one half off" meal vouchers for a restaurant at the resort. We enjoyed just being lazy and appreciated the money we had received at the reception. We went to Walgreen's to buy some snacks since the resort vending machines were $3 per item! (And we must have had too much on our minds because we both forgot to bring out toiletries bag!) We found some fans that were 50% off and purchased 3 for about the price of one! We were very proud of our mad bargain hunting skills even while honeymooning! Yeah, we are that good! :-) We went out to Phoenix Mountain Preserve and realized how very out of shape we are! (Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was like 110 degrees outside!)
The second day there Patricia decided to shave her legs with the cheap razors we bought at Walgreen's. She took a huge chunk of skin out of leg. She must have looked pretty romantic as she hobbled out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel holding a bloody towel against her gushing ankle. Really she was just trying to give Taylor a chance to practice some of his nursing skills! Taylor went to the gift store and spent about $20 onNeosporan and band aids for his clumsy wife. It is a good thing too because the next night while leaving the room Patricia caught her toe under the door and again needed to be bandaged. Good thing her husband is going into nursing!
We spent one day at the water they had at the resort. There was a beautiful jacuzzi, a fountain, and a fun slide! The last night we were there we decided to have a fancy diner and went to a fine dining restaurant at the resort. We got all dressed up and fancy and walked to the restaurant. Now, this resort is built on a hill and the fine dining restaurant is called "A Different Pointe of View" so naturally, it is on the top of the hill. Patricia, being the stubborn girl that she is, refused to let Taylor go get the truck but rather insisted she could walk. About 20 minutes later Taylor and Patricia arrived at the fancy restaurant dripping in sweat as a result of the hike up the steepest hill either of them have ever seen. (Yes, Patricia had high heels on!) As if we didn't already feel like we did not belong in such an elite restaurant, the dripping sweat from our heads made us stick out like a sore thumb. So much so that the 2 (yes, two) servers did not even offer us a wine list but instead immediately removed our wine glasses from the table! The view was beautiful though, we could look out over all of Phoenix and got to see the sun set on North Mountain. It was worth the blood, sweat and money! We played in the pool, slept, ate, slept some more, and just relaxed for the week! It was wonderful and very needed by both of us!
